Monument Valley
red-sand desert region on the Arizona-Utah border, famous for the towering sandstone buttes
A visit to the Navajo Nation’s Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is a must. The landscape is surreal, dotted by carved mesas and buttes, this area is one of the most photographed location and has provided the backdrop for many western films.
A visit involves booking a guided tour by local Navajo guides, and driving the 17-mile Valley Drive loop road through the spectacular towering sandstone buttes.
Make sure to stop at Monument Valley Overlook (where a famous Forrest Gump scene was filmed).
