Beaches & Anchorages

Walk, drive or rent a boat for the day to access these magical swimming spots

Boating all around Spetses is an important part of the Spetses experience. Beautiful bays and coves lie along the entire perimeter of the island. Break up your beach days by renting a boat, pack a picnic or anchor in front of one of the many Greek tavernas scattered on the beaches all around the island.

Hike Spetses Island

No Roaming Stones guide is complete without a hiking route!

The northwestern part of Spetses is our favorite hiking area for the spectacular views and seclusion from the busier parts of the island. We typically start by one of the beaches or bays such as Zogeria Beach or Vrelos Beach and take the Spetses – Agioi Anargyroi road up the mountain to reach the amazing views

Porto Heli

Porto Heli is a seaside town in the eastern Peloponnese region of Greece. It sits opposite the island of Spetses.

The port of Porto Heli provides all the marina services you may need if you are boating in the area, but otherwise is not really a destination, save for an excellent ceramics shop (see Cultural Wander tip below), and a couple of restaurants and bars in the newly developed end of the port.

Whether you are staying in a hotel or rented a home in the area, or are on a boat, the coastline around Porto Heli is beautiful and provides endless anchorages to spend your day.

CULTURAL WANDER

A trip to Porto Heli is 100% worth it just to see the stunning ceramics made by Marie Sideris, a French woman who settled in Porto Heli decades ago. Roaming Stones has grown up dining on her magnificent plates ever since we can remember. Her little shop is tucked away on a nondescript street just off the port.

EAT

Recently Porto Heli has developed a charming port-side area that becomes very lively and groovy at night with DJs, chillout bars, and some attractive restaurants, including Ostria, where your feet practically dangle in the water as you enjoy the lovely setting and delicious Greek menu.

OUTDOOR VENTURE

One of our favorite spots to rent a small boat and anchor at for the day, is this location just off the coast of Porto Heli, near the bay where the Amanzoe is located. The location is also accessible via the Roaming Stones Map of Spetses & Porto Heli linked above. (Header image is this swimming spot)
