Not only a bed & breakfast, but Masseria Moroseta is also a working farm producing olive oil, vegetables and fruits.

This special luxury hotel in the heart of Lecce is located in a renovated 18th century palace. The interior restoration is beautifully done, combining old world architecture with modern comforts and luxury. Palazzo Bozzi Corso has a lovely sister hotel located in a renovated old masseria (farmhouse). It is worth going there for a drink or a meal to enjoy its beautiful grounds, restaurant and pool.

La Fiermontina, a beautifully renovated masseria (farmhouse), is the sister hotel to the Palazzo Bozzi Corso. Instead of grandness, it is all about the charm of a private retreat surrounded by olive trees, a swimming pool and a lovely sculpture garden. It is worth going to Palazzo Bozzi Corso for a visit, a drink or a meal, as the contrasting styles provide different ambiances in which to enjoy your downtime in Lecce.

Enchanting Lunch Spot

This magical restaurant is a true gem. The setting could not be more special, carved into stone and utterly enchanting, with topnotch service as well. Our lunch was by far the best meal we had in Puglia. Must order orecchiette, the classic Pugliese pasta.

Portanova-OSTUNI

We haven´t had the chance to have a meal at Portanova, located in beautiful Ostuni, but the restaurant comes highly recommended.

A visit to Alberobello is a must to see its famous trulli, white-washed stone huts with conical roofs. Unfortuntely the town can be touristy, so we don’t recommend dining here. Walk through the charming town for a couple of hours, better with a local guide to shed some light on the history of these unique dwellings.

head inland to the prettiest village of them all

Away from the turquoise waters of the Med lies a stunning green expansive countryside known as Valle d’Itria. As you drive through winding roads, dotted with the iconic trulli, leading from one village to the next, you must stop in Locorotondo, the prettiest little village of them all. Aimlessly wander through the charming narrow streets, stop at a café and enjoy an Aperol Spritz. Simply soak in the beauty of this little jewel.

Our first visit in Puglia was to extraordinary Matera, where the sassi, Paleolithic (15,000 B.C.) cave dwellings are truly astonishing. Aside from Petra in Jordan, Matera is the oldest continuously-inhabited settlement in history. You will also see amazing churches dating to the Middle Ages, carved into rock. It is recommended to visit Matera with a local guide, allocate at least a full half day for the visit.

Known for its stunning cove and cliffs where Red Bull hosts its yearly cliff diving competition, spend a couple of hours walking through Polignano a Mare, but save your long meandering hours for other towns further south that are less busy and more charming.

visit the “White City”

Our visit to Ostuni was one of the highlights. Known as the “white city”, it sits high above a sea of olive trees that cover this lush part of Puglia. A tuk-tuk tour is an excellent way to see the magnificent churches, white-washed houses, narrow alleyways, staircases and homes built upon eachother. A visit to Puglia is not complete without seeing Ostuni.

GUIDED BIKE TOUR

Roaming Stones recommends a guided bike tour beginning in Otranto, and then continiuing into the stunning countryside of olive groves, ancient Roman ruins, and old masserias (farmhouses). This 3 hour bike tour was no question one of the highlights of our road-trip through Puglia. We recommend using Salento Bici Tour and try to book with Carlo, he was so great…charming, very knowledgeable, an expert on Roman history…as we weaved through the dirt paths Carlo shared insightful history about the area.
