One of the most sought-after destinations in Capri is a meal at Aurora. Getting a reservation is a serious challenge, so make sure to book well in advance.

Located on a charming shopping alleyway in the heart of Capri, Aurora is famous for its pizza, but its entire menu is tops.

Da Paolino

recommend for dinner

A trip to Capri is not complete without dinner under the lemon groves in this lovely  restaurant. Da Paolino is treat for the eyes and the stomach. -Must order: mozarella in all its variations, then let the waiters bring you a medley of their favorite pastas, they are all mouth-wateringly delicious.

La Fontelina

One of our favorites for lunch,  accessible by land and by boat

On an island where there are so many excellent restaurants to choose from, La Fontelina is one of our favorite. Built over the rocks with postcard views of the Faraglioni, a half day at this magical spot is a must.

First lounge on the rocks and soak up the sun, then have a swim before sitting down to enjoy a jug of delicious white wine with peaches and the yummiest mozarellas, seafood and pastas.

Le Grotelle

Stunning terrace for Lunch or Dinner

The terrace of this charming restaurant sits right beside the beautiful Arco Naturale and is only accessible by foot. For those who want some exercise, see Arco Naturale Hike (See Outdoor Venture).

For those who want to stroll, Le Grotelle is a short walk from Capri town.

Restaurant Il Riccio

Recommend for lunch, access by land or by boat

Recently renovated, this beautiful restaurant is located above the Grotta Azzurra. The smart turqouise and white decor is a stunning backdrop to the views from the magnificent terrace. Make sure to visit the desert room, a never-ending display of Italian sweets and deserts.

Bagni Tiberio

recommend for lunch, Land and sea accessible

This charming sea-side restaurant is your classic Italian summer lunch spot. Perched on the rocks, close to the water, it offers a beach club as well.

Join the Italians and spread your towel over the rocks and have a swim before sitting down for a delicious lunch of spaghetti vongole and white wine with peaches.

Villa Verde

Recommend for dinner, great for big groups

Meters from Capri’s bustling Piazzetta, Villa Verde is a great choice, especially when you are a big group struggling to find a reservation. The food is excelent and the service impeccable.

Arco Naturale Hike

A favorite hike in capri

Length: 4.0-km circular trail, start at Hotel Punta Tragara

Level: 9/10, coastal path with a vertical drop of challenging stairs

Capri is blessed with one more stunning view than the next. For the sporty and energetic, from the Hotel Punta Tragara or La Fontelina, you can walk along a stunning coastal footpath all the way to this gorgeous natural arch.

It is important to know that there is a very long, very vertical set of stairs that end at Le Grotelle (see EAT) that are challenging even for the fittest.

For those less interested in a tough hike, you can walk from the center of Capri town following signs to Le Grotelle, and a bit beyond is the arch. You will also see views of Villa Manaparte and Grotta di Matermania.

Capri by day

Whether you are visiting Capri and the Amalfi Coast by land or by sea, renting a boat is really important to enjoy this fabulous island in the Med. Head to Marina Grande and rent a gommone (small zodiac) or a charming wooden boat, it is possible to go all around the island of Capri and/or head across to Nerano and the Amalfi Coast, seas permitting.

Faraglioni

Don’t miss going through the iconic Faraglioni by boat.

Grotta Azzurra

Roaming Stones has a little tip for how best to visit this extraordinary cave. On a calm day, (note, seas must be calm, or else you risk hitting the rocks) after about 5:00pm in the afternoon, when the small tourist boats have stopped running, you can swim in by hanging on the chain that hangs in the entrance of the Grotta. The fluroescent turqoise light once inside is mesmerizing.

Lunch in Nerano

Again, if the seas are calm, a fun boating destination is to head to Nerano on the Amalfi Coast for lunch, see EAT for our favorites. We recommend stopping for a swim in the Galli Islands, Nureyev once owned the magnificent house on the biggest of these small islands.

Marina Piccola

Capri’s Marina Grande is a small port. Roaming Stones recommends anchoring in Marina Piccola, the waters are usually calm and it is a great place from where to explore the whole island and the Amalfi Coast across. La Fontelina (see EAT) is in in the bay of Marina Piccola and the walk to the Arco Naturale (see OUTDOOR VENTURE) can depart from La Fontelina.

Fortini Coastal Hike

Favorite hike in Capri, start this trail in Anacapri & end at Il Riccio for lunch

Length: As long or as short as you want to make it

Level: 4/10

Roaming Stones loves walking and hiking in Capri, an island filled with walking paths criscrossing its stunning and diverse landscapes. The Fortini walk is maybe the most stunning of all.

From wherever you are, get in a taxi and tell the driver to drop you at the start of the Sentiero dei Fortini coastal path, near the lighthouse, beyond Anacapri. A bus could also get you near the starting point. This walk is very well marked all along the coastline, and is dotted with beautiful tiles explaining the flora and fauna of the area.

The views of the coves and the sea are beyond. The full walk ends at Il Riccio (See EAT), where you can quench your thirst on the beautiful terrace, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, and then enjoy a well-deserved delicious meal.

Make sure to walk on narrow path from the restaurant all the way to the Grotta Azzurra. Our suggestion is to carry a small backpack with bathing suit and cover up.

Hike from Anacapri to Capri

Sentiero del Passetiello

Length: About 3 Hours

Level: 7/10 (mostly due to its long duration)

This is a magnificent long walk which includes the 921 Phoenician Steps, chiseled out of the rock by the Greeks in the 7th century B.C. For 1000’s of years, this was the only connection between Marina Grande and Anacapri. These days there is a breathtaking drive with truly magnificent views that connect Marina Grande and Capri to Anacapri.

We recommend taking a charming Capri taxi to Anacapri and then walking back on this wonderful path called the Sentiero del Passetiello.

Monte Solaro Hike

Under the Monte Solaro chairlift in anacapri

Length: 7.2km, out and back

Level: 6/10

A stay in Capri is not complete without a visit to the top of Monte Solaro in Anacapri. Depending on how energetic you feel, you can hike up and down, chairlift up and hike down, or you can chairlift up and down.

From the highest point in Capri, the sweeping views take you from the Faraglioni and Galli Islands to the Amalfi Coast and bay of Naples.

Villa Jovis Hike

Great trail ending on beautiful views & old ruins

Length: 45 Mins uphill, 8km

Level: 5/10

Right from the center of Capri there is a magnificent walk that winds through the town, villas, and gardens, all the way to Villa Jovis, the ruins of Tiberius’ Roman palace perched on one of the highest and most vertical mountain rocks of Capri.

From the Piazzetta, walk along Via Longano to Via Tiberio. It’s an uphill walk from here to Villas Jovis.

Taverna Anema e Core

For the best late night in capri

Sing and dance all night long at Anema e Core, the best karaoke anywhere!
